How Does the Web Player Sound So Good?

By default, MIDI files don't actually contain any audio data—they only contain performance instructions (think of it as digital sheet music telling a computer when to press a key and how hard). To make them audible, you need a synthesizer or a sampler. Our web player utilizes Google's Magenta.js library combined with premium SoundFonts via the Web Audio API. This means that instead of sounding like a cheap 8-bit retro video game, your MIDI files are rendered with high-quality, acoustic piano samples.
